# KPV – 10mg/vial (Research Use Only)

### Overview

KPV is a synthetic tripeptide (Lys-Pro-Val) corresponding to the C-terminal alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH) fragment responsible for its anti-inflammatory activity. First characterized in published research exploring which structural elements of α-MSH confer its anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory properties, KPV has been studied in models of gastrointestinal inflammation, skin barrier biology, and systemic inflammatory signaling. This lyophilized vial format provides research-grade KPV suitable for injectable-route administration studies in laboratory research.

### What It Is

KPV (Lys-Pro-Val) is the C-terminal tripeptide (positions 11-13) of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH), with MW approximately 340 Da, CAS number 49557-75-7. Published research has documented KPV’s inhibitory effects on NF-κB activation, IL-1β production, and inflammatory cytokine cascades in cell culture and animal models. Unlike full-length α-MSH, KPV’s immunomodulatory activity has been characterized as at least partly independent of melanocortin receptor engagement, making it a useful mechanistic dissection tool in inflammatory pathway research.

### Key Research Applications

- NF-κB pathway inhibition and pro-inflammatory cytokine suppression research
- α-MSH C-terminal fragment anti-inflammatory mechanism dissection studies
- Gastrointestinal inflammation modeling — colitis and intestinal permeability research
- Skin keratinocyte and dermal fibroblast inflammatory response studies
- IL-1β, TNF-α, and IL-6 cytokine pathway modulation research
- Injectable route administration research for systemic studies
- Melanocortin receptor-independent anti-inflammatory mechanism studies
- Comparative α-MSH fragment pharmacology (KPV vs. full-length α-MSH)

Regulatory Status Note

On July 23–24, 2026, FDA’s Pharmacy Compounding Advisory Committee reviewed whether BPC-157, TB-500, KPV, MOTS-c, Semax, Epitalon, and emideltide (DSIP) should be added to the 503A Bulks List for pharmacy compounding. The committee voted to recommend six of the seven; emideltide (DSIP) was **not** recommended. FDA’s own briefing documents had recommended against all seven.

A committee vote is a recommendation only. It does not constitute FDA approval, does not establish safety or effectiveness, and does not change the status of this product, which is sold strictly for research use. FDA must complete formal rulemaking before any substance is added to the list. **Update — July 24, 2026:** On July 23, the committee voted. BPC-157, KPV, and TB-500 each passed 8-6 with one abstention; MOTS-c passed 7-5 with two abstentions. The recommendation is non-binding — FDA is not required to follow it, must still issue a formal decision, and the process may require additional rulemaking before any compounding pharmacy could act on it. No peptide has been FDA-approved, and this update does not constitute or imply a therapeutic claim.
