Research FAQ
What is TB-500 studied for?
TB-500 is studied for systemic soft-tissue repair and cell migration through actin regulation, with research interest in anti-inflammatory and cardioprotective roles. Sold for research use only.
What is TB-500 derived from?
TB-500 is a synthetic fragment of thymosin β4, a naturally occurring actin-binding protein involved in cell migration and tissue repair.
Mechanism of Action
TB-500 is a synthetic version of Thymosin Beta-4, a ubiquitous 43-amino acid peptide present in virtually every nucleated cell in the body. Its primary mechanism involves actin sequestration — TB-500 binds G-actin, regulating cell migration, proliferation, and differentiation critical to wound healing and tissue regeneration. It also upregulates matrix metalloproteinase production and promotes angiogenesis, enabling systemic repair signaling rather than localized effects.
Research Overview
Research in animal models reports accelerated skeletal muscle repair, reduced cardiac fibrosis following ischaemia, improved tendon healing biomechanics, and hair follicle neogenesis. TB-500 appears on the WADA prohibited list, which is a regulatory classification rather than a finding about efficacy. Ongoing research is examining applications in cardiac repair and neurological recovery following traumatic injury. Human evidence is not established.
Research & Stack Notes
TB-500 distributes systemically in the published animal literature rather than acting only at a local site. No hepatotoxicity, hormonal interference or compound interactions are documented in that literature.

Overview
TB-500 occupies a unique position at the intersection of cytoskeletal dynamics, cellular migration, and tissue remodeling research. As the synthetic analogue of the biologically active actin-binding domain of Thymosin Beta-4 (Tβ4) — one of the most abundant intracellular peptides in the mammalian body — TB-500 has generated sustained investigative interest across multiple published research disciplines, from wound biology to cardiac repair models.
What It Is
TB-500 is a synthetic 17-amino acid peptide representing the central actin-sequestering motif of Thymosin Beta-4 (Tβ4), the endogenous 43-amino acid protein (MW ~4,964 Da) encoded by the TMSB4X gene and expressed in virtually all mammalian cell types. This fragment retains the G-actin binding functionality of the parent molecule and has been the focus of published research since Tβ4 was first characterized in thymic tissue. TB-500’s molecular weight is approximately 2,024 Da.
Research Spotlight
The published research base for TB-500 and its parent molecule Thymosin Beta-4 is extensive. Foundational cell biology research established Tβ4’s role in G-actin sequestration and its critical function in regulating cytoskeletal dynamics, cell motility, and wound repair initiation. In vitro studies using scratch assay and transwell migration systems have examined keratinocyte, fibroblast, and endothelial cell responses to TB-500 administration — mechanistic work that has informed a broad investigative pipeline.
In vivo preclinical research in rodent models has examined tissue-level responses to TB-500 in musculoskeletal, dermal, and cardiac contexts, with histological and biomechanical endpoints documented across multiple publications. Cardiac research has examined cardiomyocyte survival markers and coronary vasculogenesis parameters in post-ischemic animal models. Anti-inflammatory pathway research has investigated TB-500’s modulation of NF-kB signaling and inflammatory cytokine profiles in relevant in vivo preparations.
Key Research Applications
- Cytoskeletal G-actin sequestration and cell motility studies
- In vitro wound healing assays (scratch, transwell migration models)
- Musculoskeletal tissue repair and biomechanical endpoint research
- Cardiac tissue modeling and cardiomyocyte survival marker studies
- Coronary vasculogenesis and angiogenesis research
- NF-kB pathway and anti-inflammatory mechanism investigations
- Pharmacokinetic and half-life characterization in animal models

Purity & Quality
Portal to Wellness TB-500 is lyophilized to ≥98% purity (supplier specification). Each 10mg vial is suitable for laboratory-scale research and is shipped with cold-chain integrity.
Competitor Research Notes
Key differentiation points when comparing TB-500 sources: HPLC purity documentation (≥98% is the research-standard benchmark), peptide sequence verification via mass spectrometry, and proper lyophilization and storage conditions. Vial size and price-per-mg should be compared against verified purity levels, not just unit cost.

Regulatory Status Note
On July 23–24, 2026, FDA’s Pharmacy Compounding Advisory Committee reviewed whether BPC-157, TB-500, KPV, MOTS-c, Semax, Epitalon, and emideltide (DSIP) should be added to the 503A Bulks List for pharmacy compounding. The committee voted to recommend six of the seven; emideltide (DSIP) was not recommended. FDA’s own briefing documents had recommended against all seven.
A committee vote is a recommendation only. It does not constitute FDA approval, does not establish safety or effectiveness, and does not change the status of this product, which is sold strictly for research use. FDA must complete formal rulemaking before any substance is added to the list. Source: FDA Advisory Committee Calendar. Last reviewed: August 17, 2026.
Update — July 24, 2026: On July 23, the committee voted. BPC-157, KPV, and TB-500 each passed 8-6 with one abstention; MOTS-c passed 7-5 with two abstentions. The recommendation is non-binding — FDA is not required to follow it, must still issue a formal decision, and the process may require additional rulemaking before any compounding pharmacy could act on it. No peptide has been FDA-approved, and this update does not constitute or imply a therapeutic claim. Source: STAT News
